Fully air-conditioned day rooms with attached toilets are situated in the arrival and departure halls for transit passengers who wish to rest. Shower rooms are also available in the transit lounge. Numerous tour operators are represented at the airport, along with several hotels. A business centre can be found in the transit hall on the ground floor of the terminal. International direct dialling, fax machines and photocopiers are available.
In addition, there are three business and first-class lounges at Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport. There is a post office in Arrivals. Telephone booths can be found in the arrival, departure and transit areas. A communications counter is located in the transit lounge with international direct dialling, email and fax facilities.
Special assistance for wheelchair users and passengers travelling for medical reasons is available. Any passengers who may require additional assistance are advised to contact their airline before travelling. There are three parking areas at Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport.
The terminal car park can accommodate vehicles on short-term rates; while the remote car park, about m ft from the terminal, is for long-term parking. Several car hire companies, including Alamo, Avis, Europcar, Sixt, and several local operators, are represented at Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport.
Some cars come with a driver as standard. Construction work under Phase I began in and finished in Stage two began in and includes the construction of new apron with nine aircraft stands, new taxiways, passenger terminal for both arrivals and departures, renovation of existing passenger building, eight boarding gates, and the extension of railway line up to the cargo centre.
The construction is expected to be completed by , enabling the BIA to handle 12 million passengers a year. The BIA has three cargo terminals and one passenger terminal. A luxury bus operates every 15 minutes from the terminal to Colombo via E03 Colombo — Katunayake Expressway , with a travel time of around 30 minutes. E03 Colombo — Katunayake Expressway is a new high-speed road linking the airport to Colombo, with a travel time of around 20 minutes. The airport taxi service operates a counter in the arrival Lobby with a fleet over vehicles. A high-speed rail system is proposed to connect the airport to the capital Colombo by an electrified high-speed rail link to Colombo Fort where it will link to the proposed Colombo Monorail.
Cinnamon Air operates scheduled flights daily. With the construction of the Bandaranaike International Airport, major portion of the air base was taken over. At present it is the largest SLAF station in the country and is the airfield for several flying squadrons as well as ground units.
